The Story of our Company Name and Logo

As I was researching photography, video, film restoration equipment and software, I found myself drawn to the history and evolution of these mediums. I came across a series of images depicting the earliest incarnation of the slide projector – the Magic Lantern.

Invented by the Dutchman Christiaan Huygens in the 1600s and popularized throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Magic Lantern was a marvel of its time. It featured one to three lenses utilizing transparent plates adorned with hand-painted images on glass. It served as a conduit for education, storytelling and entertainment. I became fascinated with this "peacock" style also referred to as a sciopticon, crafted by the Pettibone Manufacturing Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1888.

This was the inspiration for our logo and was designed by my good friend and talented graphic designer, Emily King.
